Scoop Ice Cream Series
I created a conceptual ice cream brand “Scoop” launching with their product series focused on interaction and sustainable paperboard packaging. In this three-part series, I have produced a single serving of ice cream in a carton similar to those found in school lunches, an ice cream sandwich-shaped box with a stripped-out pull tab to unveil the product, and a resealable paper bag of “Ice Cream Bites”. These products stand out from competing brands by utilization of unique shapes in the package design, rather than the run-of-the-mill pint.
Food-Safe coatings in packaging typically rely on a material called melamine. While this compound is safe for consumer exposure, it produces noxious chemicals when combusted and is derived from dicyandiamide or hydrogen cyanide.
Scoop’s paperboard is coated in polybutylene succinate (PBS), a biodegradable plastic derived from bacterial fermentation. PBS is approved by the FDA for food safety and is completely biodegradable.
